This is the second in a new generation series of meteorological satellites developed by the Russian Federal Space Agency. The satellite will operate in geostationary orbit and be primarily used for weather forecasting as well as monitoring the oceans and climate change. Electro-L No.2 was a Zenit 3F mission operated by Russian Federal Space Agency (ROSCOSMOS) that lifted off from 45/1, Baikonur Cosmodrome, Republic of Kazakhstan on December 11, 2015. The flight carried its payload on a earth science mission to Geostationary Transfer Orbit. The launch was a success.
