ABOUT MERCURY PROGRAM
Project Mercury was America’s first human spaceflight program, running from 1958 to 1963. It successfully placed six astronauts into orbit or suborbital flight, proving that humans could function in space and return safely. Mercury laid the foundation for all subsequent US crewed space programs.
